Sedona Yoga Festival 2017
Evolving Consciousness in the Southwest’s Spiritual Mecca
he magical and mystical land of Sedona is frequented year-round for its vortexes, outdoor activities, and hopeful alien sightings. But there’s one time of year in particular where the vibes are extra high and the yoga pants are extra bright. The 2017 Sedona Yoga Festival runs from March 9-12 and yogis from around the world will gather amongst the red rocks to deepen and share their spiritual practice.
As the spiritual mecca of the southwest, it’s no surprise that one of the most lit yoga festivals in the country takes place in Sedona. And as the spiritual, levitating yoginis that we are, we were attracted like moths to a flame to this festival that has an emphasis on evolving consciousness through the ancient practice of yoga and conversations rooted in the cosmos.
Founded in 2012 by former wildland firefighter Mark Titus, the Sedona Yoga Festival has a unique focus on treating PTSD with the power of intentional movement and a strong mind-body connection. “Myself, suffering from PTSD from my service as a wildland firefighter,” Titus said, “I have come to know the benefits of these practices and the horrible impact this affliction has on family, business, and community.” Titus and team have used this platform to raise awareness about the debilitating struggles of PTSD by providing a solution through yoga as part of the SYF Gives Back program. Titus is living his dharma by helping people transmute their lead-ridden pasts into golden futures.
So much more than your typical yoga festival, Sedona Yoga Festival began as a consciousness conference with a just bit of yoga, and has grown, over the past five years, into the well-rounded and expansive event we will experience this year.
Featuring 108 presenters, including the likes of 98-year-old yoga master, Tao Porchon-Lynch, and Gordon Ogden of Walter Yoga (think, the music and strobe lights of Burning Man meets an energized vinyasa with soulful roots), this festival aims to reconnect us with the authenticity that lies within and the ancient teachings that have molded our ancestors for millennia.
Attendees can enjoy over 250 sessions during the four-day festival ranging from slow and deep yin yoga to energetic vinyasa, soul immersion, and sound and crystal healing. As well classes and workshops in ayurveda, vedic astrology, sexual healing, conscious marketing, and more. The schedule is as diverse as the panel of international instructors, and a fully customizable class scheduling experience creates the opportunity for attendees to truly choose their own adventure. Suffice it to say, with so many sessions, no two festival attendees will have the same experience!
There will also be a vibrant vendor experience where attendees and the general public (no ticket necessary) can wander blissfully while perusing the delicious foods and conscious businesses sharing their intentional goods and wares in the vendor village. And if you’re wondering what to do with the kiddos while you get your bend on—bring them, yo! Kids yoga experience is on the schedule, so don’t hesitate to bring the babes and get them started on their own conscious evolution right alongside you.
Spirit Guides is proud to be sponsoring the “chill out lounge” in the vendor village of the Sedona Yoga Festival this year, and you best believe we’ve got some cosmic treats planned! Not only will we be printing a mini-mag for you yogis to read while you charge up and chill out, but we will also be holding a raffle of the most cosmic goods (hint, hint: some of these brands are participating), selling some mystical wares, and our resident psychic medium, Diane Richards, will be there to say Hello From The Other Side. We’ll be burning sage, jamming tunes, and looking into our crystal ball all weekend—can’t wait to see you there!
